David Jenkinson is a 2nd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with over 17 years of experience in the art. Growing up in the Western Sydney suburbs of Penrith and Mt Druitt, David began his BJJ journey in 2007 and has since dedicated himself to mastering the discipline as both a competitor and an instructor. An experienced and accomplished competitor, David returned to the competition scene in 2023 after a break to focus on teaching. He quickly made his mark, winning several black belt tournaments, including the IBJJF Sydney Open in the 73-kilo Master 2 division. David’s teaching philosophy emphasizes staying at the forefront of technical innovations and integrating live training into every class. His approach includes sparring games, specific sparring, and free sparring, allowing students to apply techniques under realistic resistance. While drilling is used, David minimizes dead drilling, believing that true learning happens when techniques are tested and refined through live application, with resistance levels gradually increasing as skills develop. Outside of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, David enjoys spending time with his family, going on drives, watching motorsport, and sim racing. His passion for the sport and commitment to his students have made him a respected figure in the BJJ community, dedicated to helping others grow both on and off the mats.
